in gateshead, jane eyre feels “a gloomy atmosphere of sacrificial ceremony” in the daily life and sees flickering “ghosts” from time to time, so she feels depressed and scared. in particular, the hair-raising “red house” has almost be***e the embodiment of hell. in lowood, “death is a frequent visitor here”, and “the walled courtyard is shrouded with gloominess and horror” and exudes “the stench of death”.

the jane eyre created by charlotte bronte- one of the "bronte sisters" in the british literature in 19th century. the background of this novel is set in the remote villages in the early 19th century england. the heroine jane eyre tells about a story of an orphan suffered insult and misery.

she lives in the hell like children orphanage and finally be***es an independent, strong and self-confident woman with self-esteem.

jane eyre is an orphan entrusted to the care of her aunt. in her aunt’s, she is seriously bullied. later, she entered lowood orphanage with her soul and body experienced great pain and torture.

however, just because of this, jane has developed her confidence and indomitable spirit, and finished her study with outstanding results. in order to pursue independence, she tried to be employed as a tutor at thornfield. thus, the story focuses on the love between the poor tutor jane eyre and rochester- the man of the house.

as a romance novel heroine, jane appeared with an unprecedented image of women in this ni***eenth century novel. the heroine in the past love stories are beautiful and gentle, noble and virtuous; in contrary, jane is “poor, obscure, plain, and little”, but she has an intelligent, strong and brave soul, which could eclipse the outside beauty. more valuable is jane eyre’s confidence and brevity to believe that her soul is equal to that of mr rochester.

that is why jane eyre dares to love the man in a much higher social class and dares to take the initiative to declare her love, which is extremely bold at the time. happiness is no longer the privilege of a person or a class, she belongs to every mortal beings. only two equal souls could constitute a ***plete love.

thus, jane eyre insists that her ***plete independence is inseparable to the pursuit of love. later, jane eyre left the rochester with great grief. and for the same reason, she could not allow herself stay with a married man, which could be an in***plete love.
